The last two few four years (man they're going by fast!) have been nothing short of "hectic". Not only did I get married in September 2005, but I ended up forehead-deep in more work than I care to see for awhile. Until mid-August of 2008, I worked for a company called Lightworks New Media (formerly FaithandValues.com). It's way too convoluted for me to explain, but they're basically responsible for some of the programming you see on the Hallmark Channel. Our little division handled the internet portion of creating and maintaining websites for a plethora of tv shows that we featured on our broadband internet channel called FaithStreams, as well as assisting faith-based organizations create a presence on the web through our WebMedley division.
With all the bad press about MySpace.com at the time, our company stepped forward a couple years ago with an offering to the youth group and faith-based communities that is essentially a mashup of ideas like MySpace.com,Yahoo! Groups, Flickr, and every other "in" concept. The difference? We added a twist of faith and a healthy heaping of parental control which everyone else seemed to lack at the time. The project was called YouthRoots.com and I was the project manager / senior developer. Over the course of many months, we began expanding the project to include about five other communities (all built upon a heavily-modified DotNetNuke platform).
That, however, was then and well... this is now. I was notified that our project at Lightworks New Media was being shut down by the end of the year. The good news was that the parent company, Faith & Values Media (FVM), was continuing our work on a new project so I was pleased to hear that my services would be retained and that's where I'm at today. I am the new Director of Development for FVM which is extremely exciting as I get the opportunity to institute my own ideas learned over many years in this field and also get to meet many new people in New York City that I'm also excited about working with in the future. Stay tuned for more info about this latest project!
As for my time at Lightworks, I want to thank everyone that I worked with over the years and wish you all the best of success in everything you do!
